Barrels, Barrels and, well more Barrels!

Post by Chris Sykes »

Hi all,

Im please to provide you sneeky, brand new previews of the Air Weapons Ranges of the UK!!! Yes its those sceneries again, however this time they are more uptodate and with brand new models, created by Paul (Decapod)! Ive also got to grips with the excelent "KML to FSX" application which i can use to build roads, concrete pans and grass runways! Theres a slight hint at whats going to be rebuilt to a more realistic look!

Anyway, heres some screenshots from my flight in the new, wonderful Hunter T's for FSX around the Ranges im slowly rebuilding with the new models...

The new Dive Circle at RAF Wainfleet...

Another shot of the dive circle, and just off the left wingtip is the 6 polls that are used as an aiming point for the heavy practice bombs...

Another large bomb aiming point, this time at RAF Holbeach (Currently rebuilding this Range so no more shots at this time)

The main run into RAF Donna Nook, you can see the run in markers, created by Paul

X Marks the spot, closer to the Dive Circle at Donna, here you can see the other circle, see the next image

Now for the tip... Can you guess where this road network belongs to?

Theres a load more screen shots of the Range tour in the Hunter, could be worth the look... ;-) More screen shots will come as i rebuild the ranges...

Pembrey?? Ohh the lads doing Llanbedr will be pleased to add that

Looking forward to them Chris -- I noticed the other day your first offering has taken a nice download over at the Pond
very quietly and mostly unheralded.

Well heres a very short update, have nearly finished RAF Holbeach, just got to do some placements of some objects, and the roadways. So far just RAF Holbeach alone, has 244 individual objects!

So heres some screen shots, BTW these are thumbnails, like the ones above, you will need to click them to go through to my photobucket and then open them fullsized!

A far shot of the Strafing targets, and the Dive Circle and some other targets... Ive done the sand placement as it looks better than just greenery! :)
Image

Closer shot of the Dive Circle, there is another target to the left (Long row of barrels) and 4x APC's in the distance

Overall, RAF Wainfleet is near enough finished, just need the AFCAD redoing, RAF Donna and Holbeach are still WIP but near the end. RAF Tain and Pembrey Sands are still to be started on... Oh and this L-39 Rocks!!!

Are these for FSX only or can they be used in FS9?

In some rather elderly FS9 RAF Ranges scenery the Cape Wrath Range used to have, when approached from the north west, a number of landing cradt and small boats plus a couple of time expired frigates (Leanders?) as sea targets. Having overflown the latter targets on approaching the coast one could find a radar station plus an industrial complex to use as yet more targets.

I am not sure if that FS9 scenery is still available or has been replaced.

Yet again, another update, this time only the one thumbnail... This one is of Pembrey Sands Range...

Three Strafe panels and two main targets... Theres a bunch of vehicles off to the far right at the far north end of the range which is out of shot... And some more sand placement!

The barges at RAF Holbeach, the far middel one isnt exact, im not too sure where this one is but i think its in the right area

Well i needed a change of scenery, :doho: , from the barrel placing... So i tried out something different with the FSX KML's, What im doing around RAF Spadeadam is creating excludes for the autogen and then im creating the large areas of forest using the KML's to set the landclass, this then gives the end user the ablility to scale the ammount of trees that show up in the forested areas... Heres the comparison between autogen settings from being the highest to the one above the lowest...
