Hi lovely aircarft just did my first flight. I have noticed 2 issues and hope i am wrong, the compass seems to rotate the wrong way, ie north and south seem correct but east and west are reversed, also the radio seemed to turn off on its own even thought there was volts and i couls still hear atc. Besides that waht an enjoyable flight. I actually had it a little wrong, its the flor mounted compass, and it rotates correct, its the lettering thats incorrect, you have east on the right so when you rotate left the compass goes right , so when you head west the compass says you are going east. Or i am totaly confused. Just figured it out, on a normal compass the pointer is fixed and the dial rotates so that would work correctly as marked, but because this compass has a fixed dial and pointer rotates, east and west need to be reversed, confusing . just check with a normal compass or rotate the plane in slew mode and you will see what i mean.

Oops you mean Dave Garwoods Auster for FSX........Someone will be along to help you with the compass its a common mistake

Hi mjrhealth,

The compass operation is correct for this type of compass. The needle rotates to face north as you would expect, then you have to rotate the bezel so the N aligns with the needle. Your heading is then indicated by the lubber line

As far as the radio is concerned, if there's volts, and the radio is turned on the display should light up and stay on. I'll investigate that further.
Still being able to contact ATC with it switched off is a known issue

Ok on compass, seems that the volts drop below 12 v then radio drops out, if i hit shift m it comes back up again, its like the gen isnt operating, so battery is draining
Now ill go fly some more, cheers for such a fine plane.

Just an idea, but would constant use of the starter, drain the battery so that operation of the radio becomes a little difficult? I know they arent a standard fit, but most Autocrats now have a wind driven generator on the starboard wing, that helps in problems like this. When we went to the Highlands of Scotland recently the little props blew around so much (due of course to our surroundings) that we thought the batteries would be glowing hot!!
