Painting my BOAC 377

In need of some info on painting the model of the Stratocruiser (1/144 scale) in BOAC colors

the silver on the bottom , is it different then the wings? is it silver or dull aluminumnum or polished or what?
and the white for the top is it, off white or white white
the plastic parts are white , but thats not good enough, this is going to take longer than I figured
there has to be a years of sundays work here
she does have a spot in the FBO , been cleared for that, the Concorde as well , but I havn't even got that out of my storage facility,

any help is much appreciated

Hi Joe

The fuse and wings were the same.polished aluminium which is nothing like silver .

The white top was white but for 144 scale you need to knock it back a touch and best use a semi gloss rather than a full gloss.

A bit of weathering would do it justice too

How does one get hold of Alumium paint? I never see it in Humbrol or Revell.

he says polished aluminum, and the model is made of plastic...
plus how do I get some texture on this ....

There are three ways

Mix paint

Use special powders

Use metal foil

Which ever method you use you should pick out panels and finish them in a slighly different tint or shine value forr a real effect.

If you look at any natural metal finish it is not even so there is never going to be a paint as such to do it.

The differnce between silver and aluminium is quite marked. On a black and white photos silver comes out light and at times almost white where as aluminum if polished comes out quite dark and can appear very dark indeed :think:

A long time ago, wasn't there some type of aluminium tape (self-adhesive(?)) that was used for this.

I've never used it - just remember reading about it - might jog someone's memory!

In addition there is also an adhesive for ordinary foil.

cept of course this would be silver gilding
it would have to be very thin this adhesive tape/foil you speak of.

Ordinary chocolate foil is OK.been used for years.

But yes the adhesive foil is very thin
