My rig would be considered "old hat" now but I run FSX just fine, my specs are in my sig.

FS9- (Sliders Right) I keep it locked at 60fps, since that's the refresh rate of my monitors. It stays at 60fps all day long, through heavy scenery and AI traffic.
FSX Acceleration- (Sliders mostly right) Also locked at 60fps, but will range from about 30fps on the ground at complex airport scenery, to 50-60fps depending on weather.
This is the first computer I've ever built, and it's worked remarkably so far!

Slayer, I agree that Mhz is more important than number of cores.
I have read many articles this week that have stated many a duo core machine running faster Mhz than a Quad core(most do anyway). And thus out performing the higher core machines on the older software.
Bae146, Interested in your Intel i7. They are the mutts nuts. I fancy one of those but they are ridiculously expensive. But they always say go for the best CPU you can afford. Although seeing as M$ have announced no further Flight sims I see possibly a duo core (3.0Ghz+) as my option.
Garry, your right. I have made a note of what people have. Especially interested in their chosen GFX cards. Thats one of the main decisions I have to make. I suppose it has to run in sync with the CPU and neither should bottleneck one another.

What it means is that you need to have a graphics card that is similar in performance to your cpu. Its no use having the best graphics card that money can buy and then pairing it to a very slow budget cpu. Or the other way around. Either way you wouldn't reach their full potential.

Joney, it was the 'run in sync' phrase that made me sit up. Certainly, I wouldn't buy an Core i7 system with the intention of fitting my old Nvidia Geforce 6600, but I was wondering if there is some industry standard that both CPU and graphics card have to comply with , in order to ensure they run in harmony. Maybe I'm reading too much into 'in sync'.
