aircraft cfg editing - how to stop rolling on loading?

Hi all,

I'm getting bogged down after several hours of editing an aircraft.cfg file (in FSX) to alter contact points etc for balance so it doesn't tip over when you hit the reversers etc.

I think I've reached a happy balance as the a/c no longer loads in a cloud of smoke but still rolls forward...

Any ideas what cfg entry/entries I should be looking for to stop this happening please?

Dave,

Do you mean that the a/c starts to taxi on loading the plane, and are the engines running ? If so then it may be the idle power setting that needs amendment and this is in the .air file rather than the cfg file, at least it is in FS9.

I forget the precise section in the air file but it is possible to lower the % power at idle which may solve your problem.

Thanks, however I probably should have explained better...

The a/c originally started by loading with a cloud of smoke around the undercarriage which I managed to stop by fiddling with the contact points and compression.

However, although it now loads without the smoke it still rolls forward on loading - not as though it is under any power, more like it has been given a shove and then gently stops after about an aircraft length.

sounds like your joystick is not calibrated properly as none of my stuff rolls away at idle. (Use FSUIPC to set the zero point on your throttle/s)

Would that be why I get aircraft pivoting on the brakes during start

As the first engines starts it doesn't roll forward but pivots towards the dead side until they start and on a four engine the first starts it off, the second increases the rate, the third lessens it and the fourth cancels it out.

This is not unusual, especially with turboprop aircraft. When FS loads the plane, it puts the engines through some power cycle (for some reason unknown to me), and this often shoves the plane forward. Putting the brakes on is about the only cure I know, unless you want to change the flight dynamics of the engine (other than the idle setting, not a good idea).

Does your saved default flight have the aircraft configured with the parking brake applied? If not, make it so.

It does

This always happens even if the flight is loaded as a straight default setup.....

It happens on the Viscount and Vanguard but is especially bad on the Britannia, CL-44 and HS.748

Odd mate. My default is a Cessna with parking brake applied and I never see any rolling. For sure.. try and start the engines without the parking brake on and they WILL turn but rule one.. never start an aircraft un-chocked (parking brakes as a substitute in our case)

Thanks very much guys, I do normally start with PBs on but took them off for the cfg editing to try to get stuff as exact as possible.

Looks like I will have to forget the 'rolling' (it only happens when you change aircraft rather than reload it anyway) and concentrate on getting these damn points right - anyone know how to alter the centre of gravity in the cfg file??

EDIT: aha! "empty_weight_CG_position..." ???
