I've got my aeroplane all ready to leave Exeter but I've changed the route...I've decided to fly airways from here to Capetown (skipping that stop in Algeria). The flightplan has 52 waypoints and is all dialled into the FMC...I've set the "Cost Index" to Zero and this should ensure that max range airspeeds are flown. The distance is 5413nms and FSNav says it will take 12 hours and 04 minutes. I will do the flight on Tuesday as HWMBO will be away and I can have the speakers on instead of headphones...

I blew the dust of this monster today and had more than a few moments having forgotten the systems (the cheap version doesn't come with all the finery but the Pro does). If you buy the Pro model Jonesey, you get RR and PW soundsets anyway done by the infamous Skysong Soundworks. Can't remember if these were included with Base Pack B

For those who have the old B pack, you can upgrade it to the latest version (v2.2.. FS9 Final) by adding Pack F for under a tenner plus.. you can exchange Packs B and F for the full Pro version for nowt. Freighter fans still need to buy the Freighter model (also under a tenner at the moment)

Anyways.. the thrust of all this rubbish is.. the Pro version (v2.2) is quite a joy to fly when compared with the slightly rough and ready v1.4. Have you hand flown it much Peter??

I've got the pro pack for fsx, but still think the other sounds are better imho.
Didn't the old version have the default 737 flight dynamics? I remember the non-pro one for FS9 that I had did.

Well I don't know if mine is the same product...It is Just Flight's "757 Captain" on a DVD for FSX and FS2004. It loads three folders into the FS9/Aircraft folder:-

757-200_Captain with 36 liveries and 12 models
757-300_Captain with 7 liveries and 12 models
757-Freighter_Captain with 2 liveries and 10 models

Dave, it hand flies very nicely and they do have their proper sound files for PW or RR and they all have their own .air files also for PW or RR.

Yup.. you have the full gubbins if you have it on CD. Originally, the 752 was released as a 'lite' version in blocks. Block B was the base pack and was the first to come out. CS then produced the others (sets for the 300/FMC/Freighter e t c) until they eventually dropped all the packs and combined them into one 'Pro' version.. well, I say all, the Pro pack doesn't include the 300 or Freighter which have to be brought separately or.. you buy the set on CD as you have. I wasn't (and still aren't) fussed about the 300's but it's nice to have the 200 with all the bells and whistles.. these included in the current block F upgrade. So.. you can buy for download the Pro pack (200 with all the bits).. the 300.. the Freighter and if you have the old model, the Block F upgrade OR.. order the set on CD for a suitably combined price Many of the paints you have come with the download packs and the remainder are FOC off the CS website (via Avsim as I found out today)

Anyways.. I actually quite like the latest version. Framerates seem much improved and as already mentioned, it flies very well.. much better than the original. It doesn't quite squeeze into the VA format so I'll not be getting that much time in it but it will certainly not be left languishing for years as has been the case thus far

For your route, are you using the FMC or FSNav??

Thanks for the clarification...I always use FSNav just for the flight planning stage and never for its Autopilot. I listed all the waypoints that FSNav produced for the airways flight from Exeter to Capetown and then keyed them into the 757 FMC...There were 54 of them and I was delighted to find that only 2 were unknown to the 757 database and those two were on straight-line sections with no course change. I'm about to fire up for the flight and will engage Autopilot, LNAV and VNAV at about 500 feet after take-off. I will also leave VNAV in while doing the ATC controlled descent...I do this by NOT dialling down the altitude, before the TOD, until ATC give me descent clearance. If they come up with descent clearance before TOD then I use the FMC "DESCEND NOW". It then does a 1200fpm descent till it intercepts its own planned decent profile.

Peter, another good way of knowing you have the full monty is that the FMC works. It was non operational in the Block B buy which also had the default 737 flight dynamics.

I bought the FSX 757 Pro pack when CS did one of their £5 sale weekends, and I must say, the model itself is stunning. I love the VC and all the animations, and I thought, here's a good excuse for learning FMC operations and being able to fly in and out of Bristol Intl (the Continental New York route).

Unfortunately the CS manuals are huge and pretty unreadable. I can fly the thing generally and use the AP in the standard FS way, but basic FMC use excapes me totally. And so far there are no FMC tutorials out there for me to get my teeth into.

Ho hum... At least I still have the 748 to pootle around in.

Indeed mate.. the FMC manual is 99 pages of sheer terror. A tutorial flight would have been a good way to go for the uninitiated. Fortunately for Peter, his years of RW airline flying make it no obstacle. For my part.. there are not enough hours in a day
