Police Rap Airline Boss at Manchester Airport

Post by Nigel H-J »

Did our Eddie give 'im the warning? :worried:

After having read this incident I do not agree with any boss or superviser come to that berating their staff in public, there is a place to do it.....in private...and then advice should be given, if that is not acted upon then a b*ll*cking would be in order but definately no to show up members of staff in public, that is not the way management should operate!!

I dunno about that Nigel. From the sounds of it (and my personal experiences), sometimes such a 'berating' is fully deserved and was probably needed. While I agree that most of the time that it should normally be done in public, if there's 220 people in queue, one must ask first "WHY?". Especially in this day of very poor customer service and even worse employee pride and caring for their job, I am surprised that it doesn't happen more often, especially having seen how trying to be nice and doing things in private tends to have little or no effect on the large percentage of people.

I would want to either see a transcript or see video of what happened before calling him abusive. I also note that there appears to have only been a SINGLE call to police. For me, I find that disturbing that in the UK a person can receive a warning like that on the basis of a single complaint and am glad it's not gotten to be that bad here that one can get upset at a situation and demand their people do more to resolve it (which they're being paid to do remember) without having to worry about potentially going to jail for it.

Also, I do make note that the first paragraph states that there was apparently an issue since the passengers were (by and large) happy that he was trying to do something about it.

Well, I just got through writing a response but decided it isn't worth it -- feel sorry for Mr Meeson -- his airline will in time fail because of lousy customer service.....even the high and mighty Southworst is taking flak for the way it treats its customers. There is nothing worse than union workers and their WDGAFF attitude towards customers. I was going to make some mention
of the only airline in the US to report an increasing profit for the last seven quarters....but what the hey -- at least they will
be around in ten years to give me my gold watch...:)

No in my case Joe, I put in fifteen years of my time and effort - that is the traditional symbolic reward......the other rewards
are far better. As for PBI - only when Harrahs ask's us -- Miami and FLL are more profitable. As are St Pete and Orlando. However having said that we are putting our winter schedule out now for booking - and adding alot of new destinations from
FLA (or rather TO Fla for the snowbirds)

In response to Mr Trott....

Why? More than likely because Jet2 is a budget airline, and these days they don't want to pay a great deal for their handling. Handling agents keep their staffing levels at a minimum and then when sickness and holidays are thrown in, it becomes a little more difficult. Jet2 operate 737-400 and 757-200 aircraft so I don't think a que of 200 passengers is unreasonable.

As for Mr Angry being graced with a warning... rightly so I say! He is not a direct manager of anyone sitting on that check in desk, in fact he has nothing to do with them so therefore he is just another passenger being abusive toward a member of airport staff.
At 61 years of age, he should know how to conduct himself but instead he made himself look the fool.
A bird in the hand will probably sh!t on your wrist.

He should never, under any circumtances behave toward his staff in tha manner.

Troubles on the shop floor are often caused by bad managerial decisions creating problems waiting to happen.

Whether that is the case here or not is hard to say but his behaviour was out of order, and no one can behave like that in a public place without the risk of being brought to book and rightly so.

Was off at the weekend. Nothing has been mentioned at work. And then again why would it?

Someone has been warned under the public order act regarding their conduct. Its only because of who he is thats made it to the news.

If a complaint has been made, it gets followed up. It happens hundreds of times everyday.

Who the person is does'nt matter. No-one should get dealt with any differently.

Sounds like a storm in a tea cup to me. 8)
