Biplane over Somerset today?

Post by DelP »

Hi folks,

At 1300hrs today a biplane flew over Bridgwater, low enough to see the shape but too high to see any details. I'm fairly sure it wasn't a Tiger Moth or similar and to me it sounded like a rotary engine. My immediate thought was that it looked like a 504.... *-)

My eyesight is failing so if anyone knows what it was, or knows of vintage flights over the area today, then I'm more than happy to be corrected ;)

ATB,

Derek ;)

That would probably be the Somerset Air Force counter insurgency aircraft mate. Arrows just stick in the side and (importantly) don't bounce back to give the insurgents a second shot ;) On 'snagging' an arrow, one of the crew will note the position then release a homing pideon wearing body armour to fly it back to base. The local 'Junta' will then locate the insurgents and chase them back up into the hils. Works every time :)

Now.. should I have taken that many pills. Can't read the instructions :worried:

On a serious note.. Martin might know. He potters around that neck of the woods *-)

Actually the Somerset Air Force have state-of-the-art anti-arrow nets slung beneath the aircraft

Still flummoxed on this one, I've been googling but haven't found much. The only thing that came up was a Shuttleworth evening display at Old Warden today *-)

It may have to remain a mystery....

ROFL! Oh what a wonderful image.

Somerset levels is a scary place... I'm surprised they've got the hang of arrows down there... :hide:
