What is the difference between a "proposal" and a "suggestion" ....?

Formaility,

A suggestion is an idea you're kicking about to explore, a proposal is an idea you support in the hope that the other entity will agree.

If you suggested getting married, you're testing the waters to see what response you might get, if you propose, well then you're in big trouble :lol:

I see it as proposal being more formal

A manager could ask for suggestions before putting all the ideas together and making a proposal to the managers.

I can't tell you the official explanation but that's how I've always seen it *-)

Funny how one uses these words for a lifetime but have never really thought about it :lol:

Thanks.

I had the same understanding, but suddenly it "tasted" awkward in a mail I wrote using the term "proposal" and changed it to "suggestion" instead...

These answers proves me right....

Using some of our English/Danish didn't give a satisfying answer, so I thought: "the best place to ask is in the stables ... " And I was right
