I watched (and helped a little) while 10000 little bits became a J3 again so I wouldn't be surprised Dave.
the one thing that does seem to get done over here - private enterprise seems to have a bottomless pocket.

Judging from the position of his left hand, he already seems to be using is mobile here ....DispatchDragon wrote:and here she is in better days
Actually I'm sure she will be back flying after a while.

"... sat her down..." is such a nice term for "...crashing into tree..."FlyTexas wrote:airboatr wrote:so the Steerman needed a better steermanAnd judging by the way the prop is bent I'd say he set her down with a dead engine.

Re: Always carry your mobile...
Well... the "sat down" came across the field before the "hit the tree" part.
BTW, the story is indeed a failed engine. He was traveling home from Oshkosh last year and tried to set down with a tailwind in that field. Unfortunately, the aircraft doesn't have great brakes anyway and on a wet field, it was even worse. I haven't heard the status on re-restoration, but it's one of the only Stearman C-3Bs still in existence, much less airworthy.
