Given the talk about support as it stands in the current campaigns.....this beggars belief.

At some point in the future we may need to defend the UK from bases located solely within the UK. When that event does occur we may not have the time and resources to train the numbers of servicepeople required for the task. What then?

I am always surprised at the small number of warships now available to the Royal Navy, likewise the available resources for our other services and mercantile marine.

Another disgraceful act from our Government, our troops in Afganistan are without the necessary equipment and helicopters to protect themselves and now this, continue along these lines then we might just as well turn our services into a voluntary part-time fighting force, only report in when needed and pay at pro-rata rates and should ever a time come to defend ourselves from a larger more equipped country.....we would not have the resources, unless of course all this is leading towards us becoming a joint member of a future EU Defence Force instead of retaining our own.
