PSS Vulcan - XH558 panel upgrades

Post by delticbob »

Having spent the best part of 30 mins doing the Vulcan video, [see earlier post], I move on to the main course - taken MUCH longer than 30 mins to do - but I'm getting there.

Sorry to waffle now.

The Just Flight/PSS Vulcan comes with a very serviceable panel, but now that XH558 has had a makeover the military spec panel is all wrong. Having waited..... :(( and waited.....no one else has done the job, so I've had a crack.

First I recommend you see here - not my pix, hence just links, but these are the panel pictures of what I have been trying to recreate. Click on picture you might get a bigger one ;)

Whole panel

Pilots panel

co-pilots panel

So here is my version of the pilots panel

Sadly the Garmin is just a picture, there is no 'real' FS version, so the default Garmin 500, I think it is, does instead.

The HSI is a bit small to read - unless you have a larger monitor than my 17", so I have made/employed icons to zoom in a bit
Image

and the DME
Image

What to do when it gets dark - put the lights on!!
Image

enabled by a small switch bottom left in one of the redundent gauge placements.

I have got round to doing a 'night' zoom of the HSI - but not the DME
Image

The main point of doing this project was that the JF/PSS Vulcan does not come with a co-pilots position at all, so I have made one for XH558
Image

As they pilots & co-piots panels are not just mirrors of each other caused much head scratching.

Having got this far I take my hat off - (till my head gets cold, then I'll put it back on :welldone: ) to the likes of David Maltby, Fraser Mackay etc who turn out panels of quality. This has (nearly) put me off for life.

Here we see highlighted the tail chute switch - remember my queries a few weeks ago about the code for that
Image

Also in the above are the four lit fuel pressure lights which come on when the engines stop, also the bit I'm really proud of, the undercariage up/down switch which works.....& it did first time much to my surprise

The co-pilots position also has night lighting
Image
but its not as bright as the pilots side, & is operated by a small switch bottom right, alongside a langing light switch.

Lastly
Image
top right corner are two icons that allow the user to switch from the pilots panel to the copilots (& back again).

Duh!!! The pictures have been cropped slightly so there is no icons in the top right hand corner on these...but they are there

I'm not ready to inflict it on anyone yet - I find I need to 'live' with it & minor errors appear that can be sorted before the big reveal.

Oh & yes I have been told I talk a lot :excited:

Edit - Nov 21st all pictures replaced with final layout versions

Mr Price, you go wash your mouth out right now!!! :worried:

Its taken me the best part of a month to get this far. :hide:

The VC textures are in the main Texture directory & are shared by all the models, so the short answer is no, & the slightly longer answer is no, & I havn't even thought of doing so.

As I don't use TrackIR & do most of my flying from the 2D cockpit anyway there is no problem. As with any of these little projects I get stuck into, I do them primarily to please me & they fit my needs at that time for that model, be it cockpit or textures. If they get released & are appreciated, (or not), by the public then thats a bonus.

As it stands its good to go but I am trying to inflict it on someone to test it out for me.....I think all the errors that have arisen have been ironed out.

Sorry for FSX users, :((

It's for the FS9 version, but I believe the FSX version IS the FS9 version ported over....it that the correct term?, so you might get away with it.

I have just had a look at the VC in game. PSS have modeled some of the warning lamps as 3D 'units'!! on both the pilots & co pilots sides. As the makeover I've done removes these in the 2D cockpit, if I then did go on to make alterations to the 3D cockpit you would still have these 3D light 'units' & they might be where I don't want 'em to be, so that is another reason for leaving that bit of it well alone.
