Esso guide to London (Heathrow) Airport, early 60s

Post by TobyV »

Does anyone have one of these? If so, would they be prepared to email scans to me? I'm not sure how many years this was issued for, but I'm interested in the period from 1961-1970, any time there but preferably mid-60s.

Hi Garry,

From what I have seen, its a fold-out leaflet with colour illustrations of parts of the airport and a map.

As a kid I used to spend hours looking at the sideviews. It must be considered that this was in the days when few colour images were ever published so it was magical to see these aircraft in colour.

Infact, in the 1960's I had a Dinky Britannia in CPA finished in blue livery. I had that for years and never knew at them time it was supposed to be red

Yup, I'm watching that one. I wonder if it works out as a good investment (inflation adjusted) if you bought in 1962 for a shilling and sell in 2009 for £3.50?

Edit - the inflation calculator says thats only £0.82 in today's money, so clearly thats a resounding "yes".

I'm almost certain that I've got one but I will have to find it.I bought one on a visit to Heathrow in either '66 or '68.When we moved from Nottingham to Edinburgh a couple of years ago,we had to get rid of much accumulated stuff.I sent several old mags to DelP but held onto that pamphlet for sentimental reasons.I'll look when it's light tomorrow.Watch this space.ATB EricT :)

Thank you, its mostly the map I am after and secondly the images of the buildings. Just curious to see how it all looked back then given that its all getting pulled down now. T2 is the only LHR terminal I have flown from.
