Carb icing...

Post by jonesey2k »

... On a motorbike :) Was freezing this morning and my trusty steed didn't like it. Was cutting out at idle and was running poorly after a few miles. So its not just aeroplanes that need carb heat :)
Error 482: Somebody shot the server with a 12 gauge.

Bikes with carbs.. yes :D My ZX9-R had a factory recall to cure the carb icing probs and it did the trick. Not much of a fix really.. just more pipework at the back of the engine resulting in the engine running one unit higher (LCD temp gauge normally read 3 blocks when warm.. this went up to 4 with the kit fitted) :) The Daytona is fuel injected so hopefully, no such woes ;)

Oh the memories of carburretors and of having to use the manual choke (unless you were fortunate to have an automatic version) until the engine warmed up sufficiently to run without it.

Nigel.

I didn't realise there WAS such a thing as a carb fitted bike with auto-choke mate either with slide or CV carbs *-) Point one out to jog the old memory :)
