Cannot install HS 748 airplane
Need some help, please. New to installing freeware aircraft. I downloaded from this site the basic HS 748 package for FS9. It seemed to install seamlessly, all the folders are in correct places in the aircraft folder section of FS9 but I can't find the aircraft when I boot up FS9 and look at the aircraft selection menu item. I also downloaded the paint kit #1 but there are no instructions where to place the files. However I assumed I didn't need the paint kit anywise just to view the basic airplane?
I hope this is the correct place to troubleshoot the problem? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Regards, George

Hello George
Welcome aboard
There are three parts to the 748....you must download and install all three.
The Painkint is for painting..it is not installed but contains individual files to be opened up with Paint Shop Prop or Photoshop.

thats why when i uploaded it it said 1 of 3, 2of 3 etc
pretty sure the readme says that too.
Flightsim.com also has a full 748 file on there too as i got fed up of the 1000s of e mails saying it don't show

Re: Cannot install HS 748 airplane
Ok, got it working but the solution wasn't easy (for me) since I'm new to some of this. I got it because of the replies I received here. Thanks. Rick, I do read readme files before I bother a developer but what happended was I downloaded the base pack, went fine. Then I downloaded texture pack 1 and unzipped, had a bunch of files but no EXE file. At that point I was stymied. Read your guys replies, downloaded again and still no EXE file. Tried again using 7-zip program instead of default MS XP unzip and there it was, an EXE file. Both 1& 2 loaded seamlessly and I have the airplane.
I'm a retired turboprop driver and flight engineer and some of this flt sim stuff is harder than the real thing when you're not the most savvy computer guy!!!
Thanks again. Looks like a great simulation, anxious to try it out.

Hi George. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll get a lot of pleasure from Rick's 748. It's one of the best and most popular models amongst members.
It's very useful for us to have another ex-flight crew member around as we often have real-world questions to ask. Such as 'do you happen to have a RR Tyne starter motor lying around in your garage?'
(A standing joke - but not very amusing
)
Who did you work for and what aircraft did you work on? We'd be very interested to hear your experiences.

As it happens, I have it from the horses mouth that those missing tailplane ends were never binned but live in the fin as ballast. Not sure how true that is though. Sounds unlikely to me and you know what museum staff are like for pulling a fast one
