Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only person to be officially recognised as a survivor of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombs has just died.

The possibility that such a person existed never occurred to me. I can't begin to imagine how he felt, what he remembered, or how he lived with this distinction, one that will probably be unique in human history.
