Whilst contemplating Naval matters....

Post by paulsl »

Brought to mind by the naval thread in the Gallery and a little :OT: but here goes. Does anyone know why there's never been a decent plastic constuction kit of any of the later RN carriers? There's the Airfix Victorious but I did say decent, and if you were able to find them there's a good early Ark Royal IV (with deck edge lift) and Eagle by Fujimi/Aoshima. The Invincible class is represented by several companies.

I was wandering in the model shop in Sydney the other day and there's a never ending diet of WW2 Japanese destroyers, the big US carriers and all sorts of obscure warships you never heard of. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person in the world who'd like a model of Ark Royal, Eagle, Hermes, Centaur, Bulwark and Albion, so what is it?

Is it insufficient demand? Are these just not glamorous enough, is there some double secret MoD caveat on them. What? It's something that's puzzled me for years and it would be nice if someone could think of a reasonable explanation.

BTW I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Airfix 1/24th Mosquito that I found there. I won't be building it, I'm too weak to lift the box

TIA, Paul
