Calling all One Eleven drivers, I've a fuel problem

Post by parksie10 »

 For some fabulous aircraft. Messers. Maltby and Piper have sure put together some beauties and the handling is just plain awesome. :) However I've a small problem in that for some reason I don't seem to get fuel transferring from my wing tanks. My Centre tank runs virtually try and I hit switches and pull things according to the manual, but eventually I have to hit ctrl -x. I'm sure I'm overlooking something very simple, Any pointers?

I'm also currently busy making thumbnails in FSX for my fleet. I liked the aircraft so much I've got the entire lot and decided to put the Trident III on as well, although I have to admit (looks around nervously and gets ready to run) I'm biased towards the 727, However when you find such well made machines that handle so beautifully, well, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!! :hide:

:OT: I also think the Chipmunk is brilliant. Did somebody mention that there was a Hawk in the Downloads>>

Hi mate,

Not sure what the fuel problem is on the 1-11, not something I've seen.... and I have a big dislike of the 727 (The design was copied from Hawker Siddeley in early development)

RE the Hawk, its a payware product that Rick did for a company called Skysim... www.skysim.co.uk

To put a pic in you signature is the same as displaying a screenie, just go to the signature area in your profile settings, add the IMG tags and the link to the image and thats it, all sorted.

Thanks mate,

Will do. And you're not the first to tell me tell me about the 727, I wonder where the Ruskies stole their design from?

Think you may be looking at it the wrong way. You can't transfer fuel from the wing tanks. When you put the transfer pumps on, fuel is transferred from the centre tank to the wing tanks. The engines draw their fuel supply from the wing tanks.

Hi Parksie

Not sure I have understood properly, but I think your fuel problem may just be an oddity of the 1-11 fuel system layout.

In the real thing, the engines feed directly from the wing tanks only.
But, unless you isolate it, the centre tank will pump into the wings. The net effect is that the centre tank drains first.

To simulate this arrangement, the model does cheat and will take direct from the centre tank.
It will only ever take from the wing tanks if the centre is empty or if you isolate the centre tank with the valves.

Ah! The great man himself.

Don't know if I've ever posted a thank you to you for the 1-11 (and indeed your other aircraft) so thank you.

I've worked with the One-Eleven a lot and spent many happy hours on the jump seat, the last time in about 1997.

May I please take the opportunity and join Nigel in saying thank you!

I used to stand in LSZH as a child and watch Dan-Air's 1-11s rolling in and out and it gave me an impression I will never forget.
These long gone memories infact came back with your model which sparked new passion for the topic!

All the best from Vienna,

Nick

Cheers Nigel & Nick, my pleasure (quite literally). They were great fun to make.

And Nigel raised a point that I missed.
There is no facility to pump fuel from wings to centre, or wing to wing either.
It's a very simple system, fuel can only go from the wing tanks to the engines. And fuel can only go from Centre into Wings.

Balancing can only be done by isolating the centre tank, opening the crossfeed, then turning off the pumps on one side. Both engines then take from one wing and the wing won't be refilled by the centre tank.
Wing tank levels will only drop if there's nothing feeding in from the centre tank.

We had a pleasant evening examining the 1-11 fuel system on this forum many moons ago
I can't find it now, but the diagrams are still there on my webspace...
