Right on Ben! I am always amazed at how short the memories of some people are. We also borrowed heavily from China to pay for two wars rather than raise taxes, weakening the dollar and weakening our bargaining power with them. BTW, we had a budget surplus when Clinton left office.

I think it's a shame to be honest. The Americans have spent colossal sums of money going there (or not, depending on who you want to believe) already and it's only a nation like the U.S. that could afford to go there anyway. The thought of man going to another planet still lights my fire after all these years and it's something that will probably stay with me. NASA could always go to Wales but there's probably less there than there is on the moon (though it'd be cheaper for them to go there) I mean no offence to our Welsh readers.. it was the first place that sprung up so got committed to infinity

Unfortunately, saving money by not going back to the moon will not feed any of the people who arehungry. That money will end up being spent somewhere else. However, I still hear about going to Mars. Against a background of a degree in aeronautical engineering and a year spent working on the Lunar Module Ascent Engine (the one that got the astronauts off the moon) in the early 60s, I'm not in favor of continuing Mars efforts.

What I don't hear much about is what the Chinese intend to do in space. Should the US wait until they are on the moon, and then play catch-up, as we did when the USSR launched Sputnick, or should we be establishing a permanent presence on the moon?
