Racing car enthusiasts, check this out....

...the new concept car proposal for Indycars from 2012!

If this comes off, it will make this year's F1 paddock look like something from the Brooklands Museum.

The designer (Ben Bowbly) is a chap I used to know slightly, when he was a student and he designed and raced his own car in the old Wendy Wools sports car championship at Thruxton, always was going places!

This is a serious and well backed contender, not a flight of fancy BTW, check it out.............

Wonder if F1 would go ahead with something like that? Must say it looks fantastic, be interesting to actually see it in action especially with the absence of the old spoiler design.

Definitely an interesting looking design. I think it's very interesting to see that at least one of the design teams is actually considering the problem of aerodynamic wake as that's been one of the chief complaints of both drivers and spectators with open wheel racing that the aerodynamic designs of these cars are so critical and create such horrible air behind them that it makes the racing boring since passing is such a hard thing to do.

Is this car designed to go in a straight line or what :-O I'm sure it's all very clever stuff but there doesn't seem to be enough space between the inner front tyre walls and the body to make much steering movement. Perhaps it's rear wheel steering?? *-) I don't think F1 has much to worry about.. not yet anyway ;)

It's designed to go around the existing tracks, so it must have enough somehow. :)

Interesting certainly, but difficult to see how it'll fair in the competition for the new chassis with the "established" (incumbent and former) Indy/Champ Car manufacturers, who've each come up with slightly retro/radical solutions but which are a little more mainstream! :)
