I believe this was originally designed into the A310 to allow for a slightly higher seating capacity within a certain fuselage length.
This rear fuselage was then added to the then A300B4 to create the A300-600 and has been used on all Airbus widebodies since, with the exception of the A380.
Having flown on an A330, seated in this area, I can say that it has the added benefit of creating a more open spacious cabin, as you can see slightly better over the seats in front of you.

Yep The rear fuse was redegined for the 310 and used on the later WB....but the slope has always been there...right from the prototype A.300 :)

I think it was to retain underfloor space at the expense on unused upper fuse space as the fuse narrowed.

Not unusual the Britsol Superfreighter and HP Herald are two types where the last window is higher due to the floor rising in that area......just more extreme on the Airbus.

Thats very true Garry....but i was a bit amazed to find the toilets downstairs on the A330...suppose they wanted the water on a level floor.... ;)
