What a complete TW*T.. especially given the new 'Think Bike'r' adverts Hope the break wasn't too severe and the bike.. well, it can be fixed

Had a similar start to my day 3 weeks ago yesterday as it happens. Had a couple of delays in getting away but by 09:50.. I was ready for a trip up to the Midlands on the Daytona for my mom's 80th birthday. Lovely sunny morning, pulled out of the car park to follow a people-carrier through the traffic lights on the other side of the road.. seconds later, I'm on the deck. The cold back tyre had let go over a catseye and continued spinning on the crap deposited by umpteen cars and lorries at the traffic light stop line and there you go. RH brake lever knackered, RH fairing destroyed, both RH pegs gone, RH mirror fecked.. the list went on. After being badgered to go to the Minor Injuries Unit at Newbury, an xray showed I'd dislocated the RH acromio-clavicular joint. Worse still.. my new Arai Chaser Phil Read replica.. worn no more than half a dozen times.. rashed on both sides

3 weeks later, I'm still kipping in my chair in the living room but the shoulder is a great deal better.. only going to bed makes it play up!. Picked the bike up this morning and am now £1075 worse off (only had it on 3rd party f and f) To get everything looking as it was before the prang would have set me back over 2.5k but it looks pretty cool again as it is

Many folk have said.. don't you think it's time to stop biking.. you're too old!! My reply.. no.. no way. I'm too old to come off, not too old to continue biking

...I came off my pushbike on ice just before Xmas and fractured my wrist.....not quite in the same league

He was waiting to cross the road to turn into a petrol station and reckons he didn't see me because of the sun behind me. Bollocks as you don't move if you cant see! I had slowed down a fair bit anyway (40 limit) as I knew about the turning traffic and had seen him waiting. I was a couple of metres away when he turned in and I think I hit the front left wing and went right over.

Apart from the break and a few bruises I'm ok... thank god I had my leathers on with full armour ect. I'm stiff as a board but that is not surprising since a witness said I flew through the air like a ragdoll and landed like a bag of shit. I reckon I might have done my arm on the handlebar during the impact as all of the other injuries and damage to my gear was to the other side. I haven't seen the bike yet as I was dazed and only came to my senses in the ambulance but they said it was all over the road I'll have to have a look when the Police tell me where they recovered it to.

Christ matey I suppose the only consolation you can take is that is could have been worse and the accident happened where there were plenty of witnesses. Sorry, I didn't see you doesn't wash in court mate so this bloke is banged to rights. Let's hope he has insurance!

It highlights the importance of wearing the correct clothing doesn't it. My Hein Gericke 2-piece (Tricky2) has full CE armour and other than my shoulder and ribs (you can't do nowt about getting them bashed) there wasn't a mark on me. One of the kevlar skids on the LH side has a chunk out of it (and I don't know how that happened as I went down on the RH side) and I found this morning when I picked the bike up that the leather over the kevlar knuckle protectors on my LH glove are down to the kevlar It really pi$$es me off when I see idiots go past the pub on Fireblades and the like in summer wearing only a t-shirt and shorts!! Cool.. NO. Stupid.. YES. Imagine the state you'd be in now if you'd NOT been wearing the right kit

Bad news Mark. I hope the arm heals soon.

The most important reason for wearing the right gear is to reduce injuries of course. But as courts have the habit of reducing compensation for injuries if you don't, it's doubly worthwhile. Sounds like you're all right on that front, but you still might need a lawyer in case the third parties insurers feel like being argumentative. They sometimes try it on just for the hell of it in case they can get you accept a smaller amount.

If a guy knocks on your door tomorrow offering an immediate payment of £x,xxx it's probably worth a lot more. That practice should be outlawed now but I'm a out of touch with British law. I once passed an exam in Insurance of Motor Vehicles. I don't often admit that, but it was a long time ago and we were all young once.
