Hi folks,

The last scheduled MR2 flights will be flown tomorrow and Wednesday; after then the only flights will be to deliver the airframes to museums. The crews will be fully employed working up for the new jet which will, trust me, keep them very busy indeed!

42 (Torpedo Bomber) Sqn is hoping to visit St Mawgan, RNAS Culdrose, RAF Valley, Warton, Woodford and RAF Waddington for the last time tomorrow late morning / early afternoon. All things being equal we will be at St Mawgan, sorry Newquay International (old habits die hard), between 1200-1300 to say goodbye to 42's spiritual home.

Many a good memory of school hiking trips for the day from Truro to the coastal path and watching 42's Nimrod's coming back in.

Well that's us done.

Went to St Mawgan and Valley but unfortunately the weather dragged us back to Kinloss before we could get to Warton or, more importantly, Woodford. Sorry to the folks at Woodford but didn't have the time. Landed at Kinloss in a snowstorm which was fun.

The weather couldn't have been much worse for you could it

It seems odd to think that's it.. another aircraft consigned to the pages of history. I suppose with the MRA4, we'll still have one of 'the family' in the air.. the country will go into mourning when the VC10 finally goes!

Yes, I mean the MR4 is still entirely British - correct me if I'm wrong? So it's not as though we're losing a type, just the noisy Speys! Although they'll still be heard in Boscombe's One-Elevens for a while.
