Oo-er
I note that the 777 pilot made a sharp turn when his TCAS went off and I thought the whole idea of TCAS was that you either went up or down. However, everyone walked away and that can only be good

Potentially nasty.
From the text that's there currently, 12:30 11/03
The Cessna made the sharp turn.
The 777 only levelled off.

Very lucky indeed
Text says Cessna 182 but report gives it as an Aeronca 11AC which is confirmed as N9270E

Re: Near Miss at KSFO
AFAIK the TCAS only gives vertical instructions where both aircraft in the conflict are TCAS equipped . In any event, the ATCO should never have instructed the light aircraft to pass behind a heavy travelling at relatively slow speed - a wake upset would be well-nigh inevitable

Hiya Chris
Yes.. that thought occured to me later
Agree instructing the light aircraft to pass behind the Triple-7 does seem a bit misguided too

Good catch, Gary. I wondered about that but thought it was a Cessna - shows what I know.Garry Russell wrote:Very lucky indeed![]()

More on the "incident". Apparently it was a Cessna! Looks like it may have been over sensationalized by the media a bit - nothing new there.

The NTSB is still examining the audio and radar tracks and has not yet determined if this was a "deal" The United pilot was understandbly upset that the TCAS went off and following company rules, reported the occurence to United's Safety Awareness Unit.
