Real WX

Post by forthbridge »

For some reason, whatever the conditions, I always get 'clear' when I use real weather for my usual base, Leuchars these days. Now more often than not, WX kicks in when I'm on the move, but it's always clear and calm on the runway. If I pop over to Alaska or pretty much anywhere else, then real weather is obvious. Is there any way to find out if the real updates are working? Basically, after download, it just says Leuchars is clear, which it can't have been all through this winter :dunno: .

Hi Jim..

Are you using the 'in built' weather program or an outside one?? Whatever.. all the ones I've used require you to either wait for the weather to load or refresh the screen. Perhaps Leuchars isn't reporting :dunno: *-)

I have noticed with FS2004 "Real World Weather with Updates" that sometimes when you go to a particular airport the weather is the bog standard 15C and 29.92 hg. After some time passes( a variable amount), the weather changes to something other than standard. I imagine it could be because the nearest weather station did not update when the flight was first created. Often the weather does not appear to update until after takeoff and I imagine that could be because you are now closer to a different weather station.

Dave has a good tip - refresh the scenery since that reloads the weather - it may then read into FS the correct weather data.

Cheers guys.

As if to prove me wrong, I just loaded up at Edinburgh (I just use the inbuilt weather option) and real WX was pretty good. Switched over to Leuchars and got a little more wind and haze. So it seems to be OK. What was happening a lot was it reported clear on the download, and was on loading. I'd take off on a circuit and between Leuchars and Dundee you'd suddenly get the prevailing weather only for it to clear again on approach. handy for landing mind you
