It's about time I started populating FSX with something more meaningful than the default AI so.. my question is what tools do I need?? I read that TTools can be used though mixing FSX and FS9 traffic files is considered a no-no. I take it TTools doesn't compile in FSX format so another prog will be required.
Is there an easy way to do this or will a shedload of progs be needed to do what TTools did on it's own for FS9?
Yes, that's the one. Ben sorted me out with that, also available at Avsim etc. file name: aifp_v16.zip and it's compatible with Ttools compiled plans.
I just used it to convert my existing traffic bgls from FS9 format to FSX, during my brief dalliance with FSX
The reason you need to is that although FSX will use FS9 files it won't use a mixture of both. And if it finds FS9 traffic files it will default to them and not show any FSX ones. This includes the default AI and the ground and sea traffic.
So the lazy way is to use your existing FS9 files and run them through the converter. Ben'll tell you if I missed anything
If you put the FS9 traffic files in Dave, you'll loose all your ships, so best not to. AIFP is the mutts nuts in either FS9 or FSX and has confined TTools to the history books.
Tks for that. I suppose it's the 'learning curve' thing. It took me years to get into TTools but once I'd got the rudiments, I wondered what all the fuss was about Trawling various sites, there were few clues as to what folk used to compile traffic files for FSX and I didn't want to go down the payware route so.. I asked here, which is what I should have done all along and saved me a lot of time looking
You can, as I understand it, still use TTools plans with AIFP and if left in text format, they don't need to be converted as the prog compiles them in the correct format. I'll have a fiddle and see what I can destroy
Yes mate, it will read the old TTools format text files and spit them out for whichever sim you want. Its also really easy to make your own adhoc traffic with AIFP, you just use the GUI and it creates the files for you.
If you check out http://members.shaw.ca/aifp/ he has the latest downloads and support info on there, as well as a user manual
Classic traffic files can be made very quickly using AIFP, WOAI and some of the free stuff out there. I modified the BA traffic file by replacing the aircraft with classic stuff like the trident, 1-11, tristar etc in AIFP. Obviously you will need to download these aircraft. The benefit of using the modern flight plans is there will be no issues of them trying to use airports that are no longer in use as some of the classic files do. Within a few hours you can have the skies of britain populated with all the great stuff that once graced us.
I've made '1' traffic file so far which has worked very well (even though I really wasn't sure what I was doing.. a complete failure to RTFM) The rudiments appear very similar to TTools/FS9 plans so now I've dabbled and succeeded, there'll be no stopping me
