And didn't the RAF use Harvards as bombers against the Mau Mau?

Funny that - the next Auster in the workshop currently will be ideal for launching nasty surprises out onto an unsuspecting 'baddy' below
Arguably Auster's finest creation.
Not long to wait now before it takes to the skies :agree: You can see a shot of it on the front page of 'the Pond' :-O
Ah ! Biggles would have loved it - others might not agree.
Cheers

No, no, its a form of biological warfare....

Take one erk with a nasty cold, strap him to a stretcher with a parachute, open the back door and Robert is your father's brother as they say....

If I remember right, (read it someplace not long ago in a book I have at home, i'll have to search out for the name) the last aerial combat action recorded in the 2nd world war in Europe was between a Storch and an Auster, the crew firing potshots at each other with their hand guns...

I remember seeing an interview with Michael Bentine, who was in Bomber Command during the war; apparently it became standard practice over Berlin to push the Elsan (chemical toilet for those not in the know) out to join the regular payloads; until they received complaints via the Swiss Red Cross that they were participating in chemical warfare!

Hey, here in the US the Civil Air Patrol strapped a bit of everything, including depth bombs, under their Taylorcrafts, Aeroncas, Pipers, and other aircraft in CAP service and went U-Boat hunting off the East Coast of the United States, including scoring 1 confirmed kill, one probable, several forced surfacings, and at least one surrender due to the U-Boat running aground, so stop saying such bad things about the Auster. :)
