I think I've seen over 100kb/sec once from the Pond. It's mostly a lot less than that and the lower the number, the larger the file, the more likely it will fail. As a comparison, I always get around 232kb/sec from here which is the top end of what I could expect from 2mb broadband. I think we all need to move to the U.S.

Thank you Leif you are all being most helpful. My problems apart it would seem the exercise is useful as apparently they are not uncommon. Having eventually downloaded the Auster 5 files the icons came up in a file but when I clicked on properties I found them to be empty, I had only downloaded icons. I wondered if my security system was blocking the download but when I checked it told me that there were no security threats. The mysteries of modern science!
