DM Comet4 ILS approach issues:
Hello all:
1. I assume the Comet4 has ILS approach coupling?
2. If so, I cannot for the life of me get the "Glide" option to follow any ILS frequency. It will track horizontal slope, but will not track verticle slope.
Is there a current update to solve this issue? I've been using FS9 for some time and am pretty handy at hacking panels, but really don't want to stray from the "classic" feel and function of the aircraft. I know the bottom ILS gauge follows the ILS frequency, but when the SLS is switched to NAV1, nothing happens.
Help?!

Re: DM Comet4 ILS approach issues:
Hello Mate..
It does work.. I've just tried again (I normally use the Mk1 Eyeball) and it flew beautifully down the beams at EGCC..

However (and something to note) I tried landing on the LH runway first a handful of times and despite the correct freq being set, the ILS gauge remained inactive. I changed freq to the RH runway and the gauge became active immediately so I tried again but on that runway. HDG and ALT active and when the needles were centred, I pulled the glide button and the end result is as above
If you're trying to land on a runway you're 'au fait' with.. I'm not sure what to suggest as I can't recall this prob having been flagged. I guess the usual thing is to check the aircraft.cfg and see that both nav radios do not have standby indicated.. this is how mine reads:
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 0
Com.2=1, 0
Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 0
Adf.1=1
Adf.2=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1

Son of a DeHavilland!!!![Radios]
// Radio Type=availiable, standby frequency, has glide slope
Audio.1=1

Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 1

Looks like N2 was on standby, in above cfg.
I'll give it a try and report back.

Hello Mate..
No, that shows N2 has ILS.. my N2 doesn't, only on N1. Your panel might be slightly more up to date than my version and if you have an SFS selector, that would be the case

Hi mate,
My .cfg has Nav.1 and .2 showing 1,0,1
Another thing to bear in mind is that the lower ILS gauge shows the reading from the opposite radio to that selected in the SFS - if SFS is switched to Nav1, the ILS gauge shows the readings from Nav2. I normally put the ILS freq in both Navs and it works fine.
Rgds,
Colin

Hi Colin
Yup.. I don't use the VC panel so don't delve in there. Having just made it so, I find it bears out what you've said. The lower switch (Port/Stbd) seems to have no effect at all on whatever is set on either the Left or Right radio.. in fact, no effect on anything. Whichever radio you have tuned to ILS, the opposite upper switch (1 off 2) has to be selected. I have more versions of this old girl on my system, it would be harsh to say something was wrong as I often don't 'clear out' old versions and I know that similarly named but different cabs can make things go horribly wrong
However, infiniti.. for now at least, select the opposite number on the SFS upper switch to the radio you have tuned and your ILS will become active

Re: DM Comet4 ILS approach issues:
Just made a perfect landing with an Olympic Comet using ILS. Seems the combination of a .cfg tweak and setting both NAV's to the same frequency was the ticket.
THanks!

Re: DM Comet4 ILS approach issues:
Hi All
I just tried to refresh my memory on this.
First off, having both Navs with ILS is certainly correct for the Comet models.
Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 1
The way it works (or doesn't) is intentional.
The Auto Pilot will work on either Nav 1 or 2 depending on the SFS switch selection.
But the ILS gauge does always use the opposite Nav radio to the SFS. Why, I don't know. This is the same on Fraser's Viscount panel too (and I guess the others with SFS?).
Like Colin says, if you want the A/P to fly the ILS and you want to monitor it on the ILS gauge, you need to tune both Navs to the ILS.
And DaveB is right, the Port / Starboard switch on the Comet's SFS selector is only a dummy switch. I think it's used as a Nav/GPS switch on Fraser's panels.
I still struggle with the SFS after all this time. That compass is downright dangerous when I'm piloting.

Cheers DM

I do have the latest panel on the pc btw but found engines 3 and 4 cut and wouldn't start as soon as the aircraft went 'live' in the sim. This is almost certainly down to my mixyblob install (older versions living with newer versions) and at the time, the easiest thing to do was to go back to the non-VC panel. You know me and VC's

Re: DM Comet4 ILS approach issues:
Hi Dave
Engines cutting out is almost certainly down to the upgraded fuel system of the later version panel.
To mix old 3d models and the new panel you'd need to copy a few bits over from the newer aircraft model too.
Copy over the air file and all of aircraft.cfg after the [fltsim.x] sections. And the aircraft's panel.cfg (the one with the alias in it, not the whole panel)
And I guess you'd want the 2d views in the new panel as well.
Not all that bad.
