Just to give you and the others who seem to get so much enjoyment from Ted's Quirk......there are paints in the offing.
Wish I could figure out how to put another bod in the front and a brace of Lewis guns

Fun you say It makes me laugh all the time that cruising speed on it is more or less the same as that which most other kites tend to loose the war with gravity it feels like a pair of guns on the front firing forward would bring it to a halt because of the recoil

I think it was a Quirk that an enterprising pilot, who had been posted to "Mespot" after several aerial escapades in France, fitted no less than 3 Lewis guns to, mounted on the undercarriage to fire forwards and downwards. Without an observer, it managed to get of the ground OK, and our hero set off to find something Turkish to strafe. Unfortunately, when he tested his guns over the Tigris (or was it the Euphrates?) he failed to notice a British cavalry division watering it's horses nearby, and the whole lot bolted and spread themselves over a considerable amount of terrain.

On his return, he was deprived of his Sam Browne, and placed under close arrest. Shortly afterwards, he was posted back to France.

This tale, with several others from Imperial War Museum sound archives, turned up in a wonderful BBC Radio 3 programme "Icarus with an Oilcan", some time in the 1970s.
