I know that this may be a little 'off the mark' but I always thought that if you believe that aircraft have facial expresssions, then the Victor, when viewed head on,looked to be the most menacing, evil machine.
Another 'nasty looking piece of work' was the Phantom. It would have scared the sh!t out of me.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject? EricT
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!
I've always thought the Victor had 'attitude'.. a sort of 'd'ya want some?' look about it and this increased as it evolved. It's always been my favourite V-Bomber but likewise.. the one I probably know least about. How odd is that? I saw it.. I loved it. No more needed to be said
I just think she is phenominal, such a uniquie shape, unlike anything else. The original HP80 prototypes with that cresent wing and black fusalage where like nothing else. And its an HP, apparently the company was only officially wound up (in legal terms) in 2001. There is nothing at all left of HP, unlike all the others who still have little bits scattered about, Reading has all but gone and Radlett is half motorway / half quarry. Something about Freds Shed that really stikes a cord.
I think Reading really HAS gone mate. The little enclave which is now the museum is the closest thing there is. I understand from the staff there that the company drawings are still in the possession of the 'family' but I couldn't vouch for the accuracy of that statement. Had they not resisted pressure to merge, some small part may still be alive in Bae but like all those that did.. there'd be little to find.
I've always loved Victor because of the way it looked. From certain angles its shouting "You're going home in a f'kin ambulance!"
Still looks futuristic in the year 2011. One of the heaviest aircraft to go supersonic "accidentally" too is she not?
