While they might be 'topical'.. I can't see you being banned ;) The cloud formation on shot 3 looks nice. Try cutting your visibility down a bit and the first two would look better. Rule of thumb for me.. vis set at 20miles.. 30 max :)

I'm curious Dave. Which setting is "visibility"? The only settings I can see with specific distance are those related to weather.

Ah, thanks Garry. I'll have a little play with that setting later.

Weather is the one ;) Click on weather.. then advanced weather and a box will open that allows you to set cloud sets, visibility, Wind and a few other permutations. Select the settings you want then save that situation/flight. FS has less to do as it doesn't need to draw scenery at ridiculously long distances so the whole plot should run smoother :) It's surprising what you can and can't see with vis set to 20nm. I lost Ark Royal for 2 days and I knew where it was supposed to be :-O Not much fun in a Sea Vixen when you're running out of fuel

I did consider changing mid-flight to the Nimrod (this in FSX btw) but the day before, I had to give up. I know AR is off Anglesey at around 1400 on Tuesdays heading south but it's been a long time since I've flown to her. At the end of the day, I cleared the wx and found her exactly where I wasn't looking  I'm guessing she would have been where I was looking had I gone for 15:30-16:00 but I was convinced (and still am) that she was a lot further south 14:00 *-) Pity FSX model ships don't have beacons :(

Dave/Garry,

Sorry to be a pain but what has confused me is that Dave sets visibility to 20 miles. In my FS9 settings I cannot go any lower than 40 miles :S That said, 40 miles rather than the previous 80 does seem to speed the side views considerably

Hello Mate..

There are 2 places where visibility can be set.. one in the 'first' weather page (these are little better than useless but JUST better than nothing at all) and where I mentioned above in 'Advanced Weather'. These.. along with clouds/Wind e t c are a lot more accurate and can be fine tuned.. to some degree. 'Here' you can set visibility down to pretty much as low as you want for a given altitude and this is the only place you can set it down beyond the first page 40miles minimum ;) The only thing I've been unable to achieve is to have multiple visibility levels covering a variety of altitudes so.. I have 20nm set up to FL360 which is a thousand feet more than I ever fly. Having it set at the highest altitude you fly at causes reduced vis for the lower levels and 'clear' to keep flicking in and out while you're goofing outside so setting it 1000ft higher stops that problem.. if you see what I mean :)
