No Flying Today

Post by FlyTexas »

I thought Chipmunks knew better than to stand out in the rain. Rick's Chippie in FSX. Yes, the "dark side" has a new member. :worried:

Nice shot.

I had a similar problem when I first installed the Captain Sim 707. Using REX real world weather the airport was closed due to very heavy rain and I couldn't fly out, but then what did I expect using a UK airport

Nice Chippie. Ever noticed how most FSX screenies don't have ground shadows? I know it is to achieve better frame rates but it really is at the expense of a good picture.

Yep :agree: ...one of my pet hates :(( ...but in this case the weather would mean no shadows :)

Well I don't like FSX but that particular picture circumstance is very superior to FS9 because in FS9 you would have had to turn off the shadows to be realistic but then the lack of shadow would have given the illusion that the wheels were not on the ground...In that FSX picture the lack of shadow is accurate but with the wheels firmly in the water there is no illusion that the aircraft is airborne.

To my mind that is one circumstance where FSX produces a better picture than FS9...Most other circumstances I prefer the picture from FS9 :)

I always have shadows on myself, I bet it's probably there in the screenshot above. But here's an example of mine. I had a very wet day at Turweston and you can just about make out the shadow.

I leave shadows on in FSX but in these sort of conditions the program seems to fade them automatically. I also rather like the spray effect when taxying on wet tarmac.

Welcome to the dark side, Brian. Whatever next? Mountain bikes?
