Hello
I am flying the comet 4b- brilliant piece of work , and after a battle to learn the autopilot in VC- ( I always fly VC with track ir ) I thought I'd cracked it.
However i have a problem on the assigned approaches in IFR.
When on the approach I dial in the ILS frequency on the OH panel Nav 1 ( the left panel ) but I don't see a localizer/Nav indicator in the centre section. I know that when the localizer/Nav line moves sideways, with the five dots providing a scale with the outer dots being the maximum deflection of the instrument, that I should activate the beam and glide buttons in AP but I don't have this movement of the Nav indicator- 'cos there don't seem to be one!
Is this one of the minor problems DM referes to elsewhere? Is it on all marks of the Comet? Or is there something i should do to activate this nav indicator?
Help will be appreciated
TIA

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
Hi Colin
Thanks for the reply. I've read the thread but not sure I understand it.-lol
For several reasons -
1. What is the SFS selector?
2. The thread talks of using the ILS frequency on Nav2 as well as on Nav 1? I've tried to input the frequency on Nav 2 but the values range is different. Will that be because the cfg file has to have Nav 1 and Nav 2 showing the same , ie 1, 0, 1
unlike this Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 0
I have yet to check my entry but I will - ( different computer from this )
3 It also seems that both Navs have to be input with the ILS frequency.
FWIW I use FSX and the VC
cheers

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
Hi again FB
The SFS and other panel features are detailed here - http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk/html/Comet ... CENTRE.htm. To get the ILS indicator to function the top switch must be switched to Nav 1 or 2. NOTE- selecting position 1 on the SFS makes the ILS indicator display the Nav info from Nav Radio 2 and vice versa, hence why it's best to put the same freq in both Nav radios
Make sure both your Nav radios are configured as 1,0,1 in your aircraft.cfg. That should then allow you to put an ILS freq in both nav radios. Switch the SFS to 1 or 2 whilst sitting at an ILS equipped runway and you should see the ILS indicator deflect.
Hope that makes (more) sense!

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
Colin - Hi.
Thanks i more or less sussed the SFS by looking at the manual and i made a successful ILS landing!
Your last reply has completely cleared it up for me and I'm now enjoying the Comet fully.
Thank goodness for this forum and your help- I certainly couldn't find it in the manual etc.
Thanks again - a wonderful plane to fly in FSX
P.S Any step by step anywhere re the Trident. I just cannot get the AP on that plane -lol

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
Glad you're sorted on the Comet
As far as the Trident goes, download http://www.simviation.com/hjg/DMFS/Trid ... torial.zip, written by the very talented Peter McLeland (ex-Trident Captain). That will sort you out

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
I'm afraid the tutorial didn't answer my one outstanding query re the autopilot. When approaching on the ATC final instructions in the Comet and other planes, there is an SFS switch or APP button to press to get the HSI to show the movement of the line when you hit the localiser beam. As I read the instructions, when that happens, In the Trident, you would then click the Glide button on the AP panel.
But at the moment i don't know when to hit the glide button because I don't know what the Trident plane equivalent to the SFS button is? Can anyone show me where it is on the VC cockpit?
TIA

Re: Comet 4b Help re autopilot please
I've now sussed this out thanks. now I'm trying to get the 1 -11 auto pilot to work in the VC of FSX.
The trim wheel in the auto pilot seems not to work. I emphasize the VC using FSX
