I don't remember any Lincolns at all. They were all Lancasters when i saw it in, of all places, the Republic of Ireland last week . and if we are on the subject of the USA and its special sensitivities , we should remember what Clemenceau said about it : " the only nation to pass from savagery to decadence without first passing through the intermediate stage of civilsation"

While I don't agree to renaming the dog for the sake of being PC, at the end of the day the film should be about the ingeneous plot to destroy the dams and the bravery of those involved in the mission, not the dog's name.

There's a good chance there would be. IIRC, the film was made (or the flying sequences were) at RAF Hemswell, 5 minutes up the road from Scampton using 97 Sqn aircrew (quite a few of them Poles).

As for the name, there are far more important historical messages to get across in the film. The name of a dog, whoever his owner was, and its use as a codeword, compared to the human sacrifices and losses of both the Dams raid, and Bomber Command as a whole, is largely irrelevant. I'd rather the viewer go home in the knowledge that nearly half the aircrew were killed in the raid, and that over 55,000 Bomber Command aircrew were killed in the course of the war, than know that the boss' dog was called "N*****".
