I'm not far from Lyneham and the Hercs were a very common sight doing low level exercises over Salisbury Plain. Not so much since the Afghan war started. Still, they were always a dramatic and welcome sight and I'll miss them. I'll keep a look out on Friday and give them a wave :hello:

Still don't think it's a wise decision to cram everything into Brize. If the ONLY runway there goes black and assuming Lyneham is closed completely, that leaves Fairford as a divertion base, but even that is hardly operational these days.

On the positive side, perhaps they'll use Benson.... :)

The four Hercules must have been doing a practice run today...they flew very low over Bridgwater at 1300 in a tight diamond formation.

A very impressive sight...sounded nice too ;)

I heard them go over Westbury station. As luck would have it, I was in the underpass at the time ...

And I'll miss them tomorrow because I'm on cyberbrat transport duties.

So I did the next best thing and courtesy of Captain Sim and FS Recorder I did my own mini flypast over virtual Wiltshire :wasntme:

Is the one behind a proper one??

The one in front looks like one of those young pretenders

Correct! Mk1 at the back and J at the front. They've also given me a Mk1 in camo and a Mk3 in green but after the mid-air collision that ensued moments after that shot was taken I abandoned any further attempts at a large formation 8)

I can't get used to the J

Not that I've seen that many but a Herk that sounds like a twin prop commuter..well almost 8) just doesn't seem right :S

I agree Garry, the old 'K's have a great bass-y prop sound, and the engines have a nice whine at high revs especially.

But...I've never noticed fuel pods on the 'J' before.
