I've a similar spec setup Keith.. E8400/2gb Ram/8800GTX and it poodles along reasonably well in either sim :) The no cd patch is pretty much regarded as 'official' even though it probably isn't. There are 2 no cd patches available depending on which version of FS9 you're running.. FS9 or FS9.1 and all are still easily obtainable. If anyone wants the 9.1 patch and 9.1nocd, shout and I'll link copies of both ;)

Hello Dave. I would like a link to the patch if you don't mind?

Hi Paul :hello:

Sure, no problem ;) The 9.1 update (FS9 to 9.1) is HERE and the 9.1 NOCD patch is HERE :) Be sure to only use the 9.1 NOCD patch with FS9 updated to 9.1. ;)
If your setup is already at 9.1 and all you need is the NOCD patch, simply move the current FS9.exe to a safe place and replace it with the patched file (don't leave the original in place and let it be overwritten) :cpu:

If your setup is original FS9, keep your disc4 handy.. run the update then restart the sim. Once done, close the sim and replace the updated FS9.exe with the one in the 91nocd.zip (having first removed the updated 9.1.exe to a safe place). Don't worry.. the exe files do not show FS9.1.exe.. they retain their original titles. Next time you start the sim, you'll not be prompted for disc4 ;)

Just in case anyone is wondering - there are such files for FSX, too.

I have tried one and it works (for FSX/Accel) but it wouldn't have been necessary, had MS used a better authentication system.

I've had to telephone MS twice to go through their laborious telephone activation system (once for FSX and again for Accel on the same FSX installation). The next time I reinstalled them, I didn't need to phone for either! It's nuts.

Same with Win7 - I have the retail Home 64 and on only my third reactivation (caused by replacing the motherboard after the Intel P8P67 board recall) I had to do the telephone jig!

Makes me feel like a suspect in the dock.

Thanks for that Dave. Unfortunately my new laptop hasn't got FS9 loaded so therefore I still need disc4 to reinstall. In the meantime I have won one on ebay so problem solved - hopefully!

Okey doh amigo  I'll leave the files active here anyway and if you don't get lucky with the copy off ebay, give me a bell and I'll gladly send you my disc4 for the install ;)

That's very kind of you Dave - I should have put this post up 6 months ago when I realised disc 4 had gone missing! Having said that I would probably never have bought FSX as I was quite happy in my own little FS2004 world. :guinn:
