A classic British solution

Post by speedbird591 »

... to a classic British problem. Using ash from steam locomotives to prevent leakage from canal lock gates. This story might appeal to some of the older generation.

Interesting - thanks for posting. Great use of recycled material and it saves £££- a winner!

Sure is, simple solutions make the best remedies.

I use a byproduct of coal myself a few times a week.

Coal tar soap! Not seen a bar of that stuff in years! There was always some in our house when I was a kid.

I was always amazed that it was a see-through amber colour when coal tar is black. *-)
