Help with FSX Gold install please
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the flight sim games but now I've stopped teaching, I think I'll give it a good go. I've joined many forums and asked the same wuestions but when I got an answer, and it wasn't often, it was way over my head. I have Windows 7 64 bit operating system and I'm trying to install FSX Gold. Well, I appear to have loaded disk 1-2 OK because I tried flying a microlight. When I try to install 'Acceleration' I get the message that FSX must be installed and of course it is. Has anyone here overcome this problem completely? Also I have renamed the the installershield to installershield1. This did not help. Also, when I check what programs I have installed, no FSX anywhere. But if I go into program files (x86), there's a folder called Games Installed and guess what's in it, yes FSX.
Phew, sorry to write so much.
Can anyone help me or shall I just throw the game and play cards.
Please remember I'm a pensioner and no computer savvy.
Kind regards,
britpol (Les)

Re: Help with FSX Gold install please
For some reason I've never had any problems installing FSX so I may not be much help!
It may be worth trying to uninstall FSX, Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall a program. It may not appear in the list as it sounds like there isn't a registry entry (i.e. the computer hasn't put it in its list of what's on the hard drive).
In either case now try reinstalling FSX, i.e. put disc 1 in, let it spin up and it should then ask if you want to install FSX. It may ask if you want to repair the install in which case you may as well say yes. If it's just a straight forward install just let it put everything where it wants, some people suggest putting it in all kinds of weird and wonderful places but I've never had a problem with it in Program Files (x86) and it makes it a lot easier trouble shooting!

Re: Help with FSX Gold install please
Maybe the first port of call is the file system.
go to Computer then (>) Local Disc C ( if thats your prime hard drive) > Program files > Microsoft Games > and it should be listed there as Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Double click of course to go through each stage. If its not there then I would think its got lost somewhere, so next thing is do a search: hit the Windows button bottom left of screen & then type in the search window Flight Simulator X, if its there it will show & you can then find its location & then you should relocate it to your C drive.
If unsuccessful do an uninstall/reinstall
Hope that helps
Keith

Re: Help with FSX Gold install please
Hi Everyone,
What can I say but, 'thank you all'. I've been trying to solve this problem for a week now without joy. I think I told you I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and I can find nothing in the way of folders. I've done a search and found fsx files all over the place and deleted them. I'm aware that I should not 'Delete' fsx but when I go to 'Add Remove Programs' there is no sign of it. You would think it hadn't installed but in fact I went for my first flight in a microlight so it had to have been installed. I truly hope someone will point the way for me but if not, I'm really grateful for all the advice and responses. Problem too is that I live in Poland and no one that I can find to help me lives in Krakow.
Thank you everyone for the support,
Les

Re: Help with FSX Gold install please
When you come to re-install, dont let it install in the default folder! Tell it to install in somewhere like "C:Flight Simulator X", or better still on a separate drive.
Win 7 "protects" the contents of some folders like the "program files" one, and sometimes prevents programs modifying it's contents.
Another tip, if you haven't already, is to disable UAC (user account control).

Hi again,
so nice of you to take the time to help and advice me. god knows I need it with computers. I'm in the process of removing what fsx files I can find but of course only with fsx in the title. Any ideas on other files names. I've checked the UAC and it wasn't used. Slider at the borrom. It worrys me that I really can't see it installed. Most strange. But as I told you, it was in 32 bit program files in a folder called INSTALLED GAME. When I first installed this game I put in in a folder of this name and using capital letters. But I uninstalled it. How does Win7 remember it?
I'm on Skype, call name is britpol1
Maybe you might like to call me or text me on it today. Might be quicker than mails.
Kindest thanks,
Les

Re: Help with FSX Gold install please
I've seen it recommended that after uninstalling FS.X you runs a disc clean up and possible defrag.
I use CCleaner too to remove any junk left in the system.
It's a pain but in a situation like this it's worth taking the extra time to clean up as much as possible before you re install.
