Hello
I have read a lot about "Multiple crew experience " aka MCE which is a voice controlled ATC and co pilot etc piece of software .
Many rave about its immersion and i am thinking of trying/buying it. ( Try the demo free for four days )
It works with all default aircraft and some others are supported.
Because I fly David Maltbys Comet and Trident almost exclusively, I'm a bit wary that this MCE will work with these two aircraft.
So my questions are
Has anyone used MCE with David Maltby aircraft?
An MCE official has said this
"Right now any third party aircraft add-on that complies with the Microsoft Software Development Kit guidelines for FS add-ons is supported. You will be surprised to discover how many don't. So for default aircraft it is guaranteed to work, for all others it is a case of find out for yourself."
Can anyone tell me if The Comet or Trident "complies"?
I must say it seems a great bit of kit, so I'd love it to work with what are the best airliners out there!
Thank you
FM

Re: Mutiple crew experience- Anyone used it?
Personally, never even heard of it, but if it's a free trial, I'd give it a go, unless of course it's mega size and you don't have spare speed or storage space.

Hi FM
I've not used it.
It certainly won't do everything on the average complex 3rd party model.
This is not because these models do not comply with the SDK. MS gave us unlimited use of user defined variables so developers are allowed to program extra functionality and still be SDK compliant!
What these people are really saying is that their software works with the default systems.
The auto pilots of my models have some functionality differences where I had to write my own code to make them work more like the real ones.
These special A/P functions only work properly if you click the relevant buttons on the screen (it's not standard functionality, so unfortunately there is no standard command or key press control available).
So this software couldn't deal with stuff like A/P Manual mode, IAS hold or auto land etc., unless it allows you to setup voice activated screen clicks on 2D panels etc.
I'm pretty sure my models can be flown perfectly well using just the standard functionality though. If you don't mind missing out on some of the authentic hand made stuff.
You would need to try the demo and judge for yourself if it does what you need.

Personally I'd steer clear of anyone that makes statements like this on their website - Unlike the poor implementation of our competitors, we do know what's on the ATC menu. Yuk

Re: Multiple crew experience- Anyone used it?
Thanks for the replies. I'll probably give it a go.
DM- Your reply has helped a lot. I like to use your auto pilot method, i.e by clicking on the various switches etc,in the VC which to my mind replicates what the pilot's hand would be doing to implement those functions. That is why, without wanting to start a debate on instrument boxes which some chaps use on their desks etc, I favour your planes so much- The VCs are brilliant in that nearly every switch etc works, and so I'm flying the Comet or Trident or whatever. When the boxes are used, they are used whatever plane you are flying,no? - so, to me, a lot is lost in their use. !
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that I would still want to fly your planes as I do now,( doing the switches myself ) and I don't know that this MCE is meant to take away from me still doing that. I would basically just want it to give me voice ATC rather than pressing keyboard numbers. So, from what you say, I think it will work, as I'd like it to, with your planes.
I'll give the demo a go and report back. I'll need to wait for four grotty ( weather wise) days to come up after i've checked my headset mic is working properly . (The demo only lasts four days)
Thanks again for the prompt response.
cheers

Re: Multiple crew experience- Anyone used it?
I have tried it.
When it first came out - and several later versions, too.
I don't like it - had many issues and the so-called help from the developers was insulting and totally unhelpful.
Everyone else is to blame for their software not working as they say it will.
I especially had issues when I switched to Win 7 64bit.
If it were not so expensive it would be something else - but at the price they charge it is, imho, junk.
Try the demo and you'll know if it works on your system, with the aircraft you want it to (you'll probably need to write your own checklists). At least they get some credit for providing a demo - but the time limit to try out a potentially complex add-on is laughably short.
