DMs' Comet

Post by Nigel H-J »

I often fly right-hand seat in VC mode as it makes a bit of a change especially since I have Track IR.

Now I don't know whether any-one has brought this up before but..............when flying right hand seat in Daves' Comet there is not an ILS instrument nor is there the thingy that you click for take-off/landing speeds either!!!:(

Surely the captain didn't hog all the landings when it came to ILS approaches during its' service or even mistrust the co-pilot to doing one did he? *-) or was this just a mistake?

Any chance of anyone able to advise how to put the ILS into the co-pilots position would be wonderful.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards
Nigel.

I'd never noticed that.
I sometimes fly right seat too, but have only done it in 1-11 & Trident.

I've just had a look through my photos and have yet to see one that has an ILS thing on the right. All left only. *-)
It is unusual, but certainly not a mistake.

I couldn't possibly condone such butchery, but if you want to change it, you need to edit panel.cfg
That's in the 'Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\DMFS Shared Files\DH106 Comet 4 Panel VC' folder.
I'd suggest replacing the standby altimiter with the ILS. So this is what the [Vcockpit03] section would then look like...

David's Comet is absolutely correct.

I've looked through all my photographs and manuals for six different operators and there was usually a single ILS on the P1 panel without one on the P2 panel. Very occasionally it was the other way round (ILS on P2 but not P1, eg XS-235). The only photograph with an ILS on both P1 and P2 is from XA-NAR but this is not supported by the equipment list in the the Mexicana Flight Operating Manual. It must have been a later addition.

The reason for only one ILS is because the Smiths Flight System relayed the same ILS deviation information when the BEAM and GLIDE modes were active, via the Pitch Director Pointer and Azimuth Director Pointer on the Director Horizon and the Radio Displacement Pointer on the Beam Compass. Either pilot could make an ILS approach. The "zero reader" style ILS was only a back-up.

Quite a few types are not fully equipped on the P2 side and in the case of the Bristol Freighter very little that side

The P2 being more of an assistant and back up it seem to be adequate

On some types the co pilot would assume the LH seat for his sectores

Don't know about the Comet but it doesn't strike me as being unusual for those days. *-)

Very many thanks for all your replies and especially to Dave for giving up his time to put in the instructions for changing the panel to put in the ILS on the co-pilots side.
I couldn't possibly condone such butchery, but if you want to change it,
All your models are so realistically modelled Dave and (1) Not realising that the ILS did not actually exist on the co-pilots side and (2) after your comment quoted above.............I really do not have the heart or courage to change anything now. :hide:

Again, very many thanks.

Kind regards
Nigel.
