Viscount Doors

Post by Ralphc »

Hello All....
Thanks for the splendid work you're doing here, it really is a pleasure looking through the Forum and learning at the same time. Got a question which might be very easy to answer. hope I've not missed it here. I'm running FSX, and I'm puzzled how one opens the doors on the excellent Viscounts. I press the keys required, and it tells me the doors are opening and they're not. :S . Reading the instructions too. Just done a flight and lost an engine through messing with the HP cocks...managed to get it going again using the emergency procedures! The doors have me baffled though.

I think I've got the latest panels and AC from the site for the 700/802/806. However, was scanning the forum here (this is off subject now) and I'm sure I saw a hint of a new panel from Mr. McKay (genius) for the Viscount...or was I imagining it?? :dunno: Hope someone can help please.
Thanks
Ralphc

Hi, and welcome :hello:

Rick Viscount is quite an old model now, and I'm not sure if it actually had opening doors modelled *-)

I'm sure someone more familiar with the Viscount will be along shortly :)

Hi Ralph and welcome :hello:

As DG mentioned, the Viscount is an old model and doesn't have 'proper' opening doors. The doors display as open and steps show when engine one is off and the landing lights are off (probably when the parking brake is on too but I can't remember this for sure).

The parking brake has to be on and the engines off (1&2)....last V.800 model only.

The earlier 800 and the 700 don't have anything

As DaveB mentioned they are not true opening doors but modelled open doors that appear with textured openings.

Hello..
Thanks all for the warm welcome and the help. :) I've got the latest model (I think) Aug. 2008. Still no joy. Not to worry though, don't intend having the AC on the ground for too long anyway. Just enjoy flying it! ;) Once I've mastered it's intricacies. A real pleasure.
Thanks again for the Viscount..It's now 'decked out' in SAA colours. Was I imagining the Fraser McKay Panel BTW? :S
Best Wishes

Hi Ralph,

You didn't imagine it, Fraser had it almost complete, but hard a catastrophic hardware failure. I'm sure he said it was backed up, but I imagine it will take a while to get everything back up and running again given how expensive PC's etc are.

Hi Ben...
Thanks for the update and confirming (for me at least) that I'm not going senile! ;) Bad news for Fraser that. Hope he gets sorted soon. As you suggested, it's an expensive business 're-building' hardware in both time and money. Hope he didn't lose too much. :worried:

Hi Ralph,

I'm back in business, but it's taking rather longer than anticipated. As I anticipate this will be the last full update for this Viscount model, I want to get it right and complete across the range of types. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks there will be a pre release for the V802 and 806, V803 and V808 panels, which cover the seven 800 types built. The 810 series is in production as per SAA, and will cover the V813, V814, V836 and hopefully if I can get the right info the entirely different V831/833.

cheers

Fraser

Hi Fraser...
Thanks for the update and please accept apologies for the late response. Glad you're back 'up and running.' It must have been a very frustrating time for you. I want to mention that your work is excellent (whilst you're here ;) ) Once your Manuals are read, then these AC are a pleasure. Can't wait for the updates. All good things are worth waiting for me thinks. Look forward to the new improved SAA too.
Best Wishes
