EDIT.. I forgot to answer the smoke question. If you want to see startup smoke.. change these lines in the smoke section of the config (down at the bottom) ,fx_smoke_rx, to read fx_smoke_r.fx .. you'll then have startup smoke. Do the same on the Varsity and Valetta should you so wish.

Hi Dave.I just did a take off in both V's.The ASI in the Varsity seems ok ie the speed as displayed on the ASI matches what is shown under the cursor tooltip but that of the Viking seems to match at low speed but diverges higher up the scale.For example when the ASI is showing 200KIAS,the tooltip shows about 160.
Regarding startup smoke,neither Varsity or Viking aircraft.cfg files have a [smoke] section that I can see, although there is a fx_smoke_r.fx file in the Effects folder but I presume that this file is used by other aircraft to show startup smoke.I really hope that I'm not giving you the runaround here.ATB EricT

This was at the very bottom of each of the 3 V's aircraft.cfgs. I checked for the fx file (on an old pc that would have it) and couldn't find it so I changed the cfg to point to a smoke file I did have. Copy and paste this to the bottom (or wherever you see fit) of the 3 V's cfg..

smoke.1= -3.67, 6.4, 13, fx_smoke_r.fx

This file may not be perfect and may not have been the one originally intended (it may not be a typo) but you get smoke.

I mentioned earlier that I'd tried the Varsity ASI and found it worked fine so I swapped the one in the Viking for that one. I think I gave the line above somewhere.

I've just found the Valetta on the same pc.. my old XP2400 and have put it on this one. I dare not open it in case I find something I don't want to see

Is there anything else I can do while I'm here? Having just flown a Freighter back to UK from Halifax, I need another challenge. That said, it only took me 4 days

Incidentally.. I've just looked at the Valetta and there are some odd things going on on the flightdeck. This panel was based on the aircraft at Flixton and like all things in museums.. you shouldn't trust what you see with your own eyes.. unfortunately. The gear flap indicator.. I can't believe it's still there as we knew at the time it was wrong (it's off a Ruskie). There are other details errors too but let's not get taken away

This brings me to the RMI. The Viking shouldn't have one anyway.. I know it's there but it shouldn't be. The RMI on the Valetta works as an ADF indicator and it does actually work. Why it's on an RMI.. I don't know. The VOR part of the gauge doesn't work as with the Viking.

I don't know if you have Garry's Freighter but the Viking should have that big Sperry unit fitted.. I've just found out. The Viking panel at Brooklands is not only incomplete.. it's in bits.. still So.. what we have with the V3 are a mixture of misfit guages on the Valetta, an early Varsity (later panels looked almost modern) and the Viking suffers bits of both Other than this, we still have much to celebrate don't we and that's the important thing

You keep pointing things out and I'll do my best to sort them I'll look at alternative smokes for the trio too

Morning Dave.An update.
1.First an apology,I CAN see startup smoke in BOTH Viking and Varsity.I was looking for a larger cloud of it as per MAAMSIM DC3.However,the Viking's .cfg file already contained [SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0= -3.67, 6.4, -13, fx_smoke_rx
smoke.1= -3.67, 6.4, 13, fx_smoke_rx
but there is no [SMOKESYSTEM] entry in that of the Varsity.Not sure why the difference but it's not that important.So in fact I haven't changed anything re the smoke so I'll leave this alone.
2.I have installed your darkened Viking panel,which does look better I think, but the ASI and clock(time indicator) problem is still there.Regarding the ASI,yes the ShiftZ function shows airspeed matching that using tooltips, ie hovering the mouse over the ASI,but ASI needle disagrees with them both,for example when ShiftZ shows 160 kts,the needle shows about 200. Regarding the clock(bottom left on the panel),the clock face is sitting below its cutout on the panel.The Varsity is ok on both counts.
Just out of interest I did try putting gaugeXX=Varsity_T1!Airspeed, 407,463,61,61 into your panel,both as Varsity_T1! and then as Viking!,but no joy.In fact when I used Varsity_T1! the ASI disappeared.
The original entry is gauge28=Viking!Airspeed, 407,466,62,58 which I have restored.
The values for gauge02 the MKIV_Clock are 183,728,47,46 in both aicraft. I am assuming gauge02 is the right one.

Ahh Eric.. you're keeping me active in these days of unemployment so fear not. I'm useful here (I hope) if nowhere else

My Varsity had the smoke entry but hand on heart, I couldn't guarantee it was there when the model was released. I don't remember putting it there but I don't remember a lot these days

The MkIV clock in all of my setups is little better than useless. I think it reads GMT with mouselook wherever you are (which is handy for the VA as all our flights are GMT) but the fingers bear no resemblance to any time past, present or future. It may sort itself out if it were made bigger.. I honestly don't know

I'm sure the Varsity ASI worked fine in all respects on my setup Eric. I'll have to double check. Incidentally, how is your sim setup regarding measurements.. eg, US Metric? I can't remember what mine is now but I'll have a look. I like my weights to display in kg so that is how my sim is. I'll have a look as this may have some bearing on how the gauges read (my Viking ASI was reasing kph and my VSI in metres)

Right Eric.. I'm setup as Metric (alt in feet) in Options/Settings/International. This may explain why my ALT reads metres in tooltip/mouselook. I've looked at the Varsity ASI in the Viking again and it reads fine. Just been up as high as 200kts and both tooltip/mouselook and the gauge needles correspond.. and correspond with text readout shift+Z
The old clock.. well, tooltip/mouselook give 2:12pm at my startup in GUE even though the startup is 12:12. This is because FS thinks GUE is out in the Atlantic somewhere The clock fingers were reading 2:37. No idea where this comes from but it confirms the clock is bust So.. tooltip/mouselook on the clock always show local time but the clock fingers show whatever they wish.

Note with the Varsity ASI.. I've not put that one into the Viking.cab.. the ASI in my Viking points to the Varsity.cab. The ASI in the cab I sent is the standard Viking item.. I only sent the cab because the pedestal bmp is in there and I changed the colour to match the panel

Hi Dave.For a couple of weeks I've had Settings = US System and in the Viking, tooltips for Altimeter are in feet and ASI are in kts.
Changing to settings = Metric(altitude in feet) then tooltips show meters and km/h.
In the Varsity,the tooltips are always in feet and kts irrespective of the Settings.
I've just had a thought (no comments please) I am normally in Metric(altitude in meters) and would have been when I installed the Varsity.If for some reason I chan ged to US SYSTEM before installing the Viking,could that have caused the problem?
I think I might remove the Viking, change back to Metric(altitude in feet) and reinstall the Viking.May try later ot tomorrow.I'll let you know when it's done.Cheers Dave EricT
Ps I haven't changed anything in the Cab files and on a different subject,any progress at all yet on the employment front?

Hello Mate

The guages have provision for all variants.. metric/feet/meters so should adapt. However, these are FS2002 coded and there were subtle changes to the code for FS9. I've always used metric/feet so why the Viking ASI has been giving me kph but the Varsity gives me knots, who the hell can say. Having put it in the Viking, it still reads knots. I love pc's

Funny you mention the job front. I won't bore you shitless with it but I had the 4th stage of 'getting in' with National Express today.. the interview. First the application, second.. an induction and written assessment, third.. driving assessment, fourth.. interview. If this goes ok (I'll know in a couple of days).. it goes to the 5th stage.. a medical (3 weeks time) and if that goes ok, there's a theory test. If after all that you get through, then you start 12 days training and get paid. The problem is, each bit has such a long gap inbetween. Two weeks from the induction/written assessment.. just over two weeks for the driving assessment.. 3 weeks for the interview.. another 3 weeks for the medical. All these weeks turn into months and I've not earned a red cent yet Still.. the daughter and wife are working so I may take this as my gap year
