Formation AI

I'm probably light years behind you all, but:
Discovered freeware as above, which is a bit of fun.
Tried flying me plus four detailed AI, but frame rates suffered, and my controls were way too slow. :(
Cut back to me plus two pals, and this is the result: *-)

Ran this again today, this time using AI aircraft instead of fully detailed.
Left Avalon in a total formation of 5 Avro Shackleton MR3s. (now where oh where did I get them?) :)
The sound was quite an earful. The restriction on flight path is that you have to choose diamond, box, or straight line before take off, but you do choose distance of each leg of the course in nms.
Have to repeat that as a free download, it's worth a go. :agree:

"as above" meaning??...Try Googling "Formation AI"...the results are completely unhelpful. The free download URL would be most helpful :)

Don't mention it Mike...I guess I was in Grumpy mode...Google gets me that way sometimes :agree:

Anyway as others have pointed out...It would not fit FS9 anyway :)

I tried it, and was surprised at just how unhelpful the Google search results were! I'm not surprised that you were miffed!
In an effort to redeem myself I found a French site which claimed to have the 2004 version, but it turned out to be an old FSX version.
I found another which allows you to fly in FS9 in formation with the BBMF. Sadly, you must already have the Aircraft Heaven Trio for that to work. So far I haven't found the Trio currently available even from the commercial guys who took over AH.
If you have them and are interested, I can post a link to that file.
I've downloaded an adventure file which apparently allows us to fly with one other aircraft. I'll load it and see what happens.
Finally, I've written to Jerry asking whether he has, or could, release an FS9 version of the original subject.
I'll keep you all posted.

And for those who DO want the FSX version, this is where I got it:

Well, we got our answer.... :( :'(

Hi Mike,

Happy to hear you enjoy the program, but as far as FS2004 is concerned, it
just doesn't have programmable AI like FSX does. It's one of the
improvements MS made in going from FS2004 to FSX to support their concept of
'adventures' in FSX.

Regards,
Jerry

I think we all knew that to be the case Mike but thanks for pursuing it. Makes another good reason to keep both sims on our systems ;)
