TSR2 has brought to my notice the above weather & texture addon for FS9. Having just been forced to buy a new computer with W7 OS I am having to be somewhat circumspect with funds. (Retired many years ago so on fixed income).
Are there any forum members using the above program? If so I should like to read their views on that program, both the good and any bad points please.

Reason: Product more commonly known as REX, so it will be more noticeable for folk to feedback on.

Re: Forum users view of REX for FS9 addon
Hi Hobby
,
My experience is limited to low altitude slow flying, simply because I mainly do VFR in a dH Moth, Piper Warrior or similar.
I bought REX, and it installed well.
It does indeed enhance particularly the sky, allowing post card picture dawns and sunsets with tropical exaggerations of colours.
You can:
- alter the appearance of water, some effects only being worthwhile at 30,000 feet (eg large ocean rollers) which look pretty weird up close.
- control cloud appearance more than in FS itself.
- build a combination of effects and save your favourite.
To be honest, my feeling was that the improvement in FS9 skies over FS98 was so great that REX merely gave another layer of icing.
If you want to make eye-watering screenshots or videos, you will probably need it.
If you are doing local flying, it's probably better to put dosh into detailed local scenery.
If you want to pick a situation, give me the exact details and I'll set up the same using REX, then post a detailed screenshot on my web page; that way we won't waste CBFS space, and won't blow your email limit. You can just see it there.
Enjoy your retirement. I'm in the same position myself.
One tip that helps our finances - make estimated fortnightly instalments on all the utility bills, then square off when the actual bill comes in.
In Australia I use BILLPAY to pay direct from my bank.

I think you missed a couple out there Mike.. there was also FS2000 (we don't mention it though) and FS2002 prior to A Century of Flight so FS98 to FS9 really is a quantum leap in the grand scale of thingsTo be honest, my feeling was that the improvement in FS9 skies over FS98 was so great that REX merely gave another layer of icing.

Re: Forum users view of REX for FS9 addon
Points taken.
I did run FS2000, but somehow it slipped my mind.
Didn't get 2002, so ACOF was the first time I saw decent sky in FS, and that's the version Hobby quoted.
If real - time weather is required, there is the freeware option, as suggested to the query about "Active Sky" on this forum. That would save a shilling or 3 for Hobby.
It's good to see the various opinions, that is what Hobby wants.

I use REX and I think it is worth the investment.

Hi,
I would say that REX FS2004 + Overdrive is mandatory. Combine it with Ground Environment Pro 2 and FSGlobal 2010, and you have really boosted new life into FS9.
Some say that Active Sky has a better weather engine than REX. But I use the one included in REX, and I´m happy with whatever limitations it has.
These three addons work well together in each their domain, and they make me stick to FS9 as my main sim, with all its wonderful freeware aircraft available.
Best Regards,
Anders
