Hi Ian, sorry for being nosy.I now realise the the higher ground to the southeast which you mentioned is probably the edge of the Vale of Belvoir.Incidently my niece and family live in Bingham.As an aside,if you have an Airband radio,you should get good reception on the Shanwick and other freq's from the 'Grantham' transmitter. Nothing as dramatic as the ridge that Belvoir Castle sits on. That is a few miles away so it would only knock a few degrees off the horizon.

Since the signal is line of sight, the fact that I live half way up a (small ridge) has a dramatic effect.

So in the picture below, I live within the white circled area. The top of the ridge is shown in red.


The consequence is (with apologies to kids who could do better!):

Being line of sight, at least you can pick up what you see, even if at times it short notice

I'm with you now Ian.That low ridge must run from somewhere near the Saxondale roundabout and along the north side of the A52.My niece and amply live beyond the northern edge of your white line.I always associate that area with the old RAF Newton from where I had many air experience flights with the ATC.Of course you are also quite near Langar airfield where I have spent many sunny afternoons watching the skydiving at the parachute school.
When we first married we lived at Arnold,quite near Mapperley top,which would be a good reception area.Later we moved to Newthorpe about 8miles NW of Nottingham,where we lived for 35 years,before moving up here.Best Wishes EricT

For any Windows Phone users, Flight Radar have released their app for this platform, now available in the market place for free. Its not quite as smooth as the Plane Finder payware App, but its a welcome addition which will no doubt get better as its further developed.

I only seen them, I think three times, but makes a change form the usual TA traffic

Downloaded the app for the iPad the other day for £1.99.It doesn't seem to give much more than the freebie but I suppose it contributes towards the upkeep of the site.EricT

There are at least 3 x Dreamlifters: N249BA, N780BA, N747BC

They typically call in at Prestwick to refuel before setting out across the Atlantic.
