Just been keeping one eye on the opening ceremony.... The Artic Monkeys? Was that noise a good idea? And to play Come Together????? Are they completely unaware of what the song was about? I'm stunned and am sitting giggling like a schoolgirl. Ohterwise quite a good ceremony thus far if a bit long and drawn out.

I thought it was really good, long yes, but a great representation of our great country. I dare say some of the humour will get lost in translation, but it works for me :agree:

Be not afeard Ben, Not all will be lost.
I've learnt a thing or two over the seven years I've been here.

I'm with Ben on this one! There were a few quirky bits but it wouldn't have been British without. I thought it showed how Britain is culturally the most modern nation in the world and London is undoubtedly the most vibrant multicultural city. It showed how we rode out all those potentially disastrous changes in our history, absorbed them into our culture and came out stronger. I think it showed how democracy works because the show was all about including the audience, the visitors, the athletes and the entertainers and not about organisers or politicians. Which is exactly what it should be.

It was tasteful, spectacular, incredibly well executed and sometimes very moving. Well done Seb Coe and Danny Boyle. I didn't know what to expect but that was bloody marvellous.

So what are you trying to say here...that I should watch the 100m women's hurdles rather than the womens beach volley ball ? Give me some guidance.
