Mount McKinley...

I tried to get a shot in MS FLIGHT of Mount McKinley from the same direction as this well known picture was taken.

I was not very successful as I found it difficult to replicate the exact direction and elevation that the real shot was taken...But here are the three shots that I did take on my run in:-


McKinley is the Highest one to the left of centre.


The highest part is called the North Peak. The jutting out part on the right is called the East Buttress.


Time to get out now...

It is quite big!

On a crisp day we could see it from Anchorage quite clearly - and that's about 150 miles away

By a strange coincidence I loaded some new scenery this afternoon and that's got American mountains. I can't stretch to anything as exotic as a Carbon Cub and the mountain is only a shadow of Mt. McKinley. But here's a postcard of me just below the peak of Mt. Olympus in Washington State. I nearly went there once - but that's another story

It is quite big!

Indeed matey but when you're surrounded by the darned things.. needle in a haystack springs to mind. I've sought a couple of 'landmark' peaks out in FS9 with Switzerland Pro which is pretty accurate and it was easier said than done.

Sorry, Dave, didn't mean to have a joke at your expense (unusually ). The joke doesn't work unless you're familiar with Mt. McKinley and if I'd given an explanation, well, that wouldn't have worked either However, it did amuse me!

I've found this photo of McKinley from Anchorage and as you can see it's, er, 'topographically prominent', so not surrounded by similar lumps of rock like in the Alps. And being as it's also the highest peak in the USA you can see where I'm coming from with my attempted joke. You can, can't you?

A picture tells a thousand words

You'd rightly guessed that while I was 'au fait' with the name, I wasn't 'au fait' with the mountain itself and the shear size of it in relation to it's surroundings. Had Peter NOT found it.. he'd have been a good candidate for certification

I think it was JohnP who posted some shots of Mont Blanc ages ago (could've been Brian Franklin now I think about it) so I thought I'd go and find it in FS. Not so darned easy despite noting it's geographic location and flying to it in FS Mount McKinley is something else mind you.. even I could find it
