Lance Armstrong

Hi guys,

I know there are some very keen cyclists on the forum and I must say recent events concerning Lance Armstrong are somewhat of a talking point.

Reading comments on the web generally, it seems opinions are divided across the globe.

I found this link interesting reading.

And no matter what your opinion is of Lance Armstrong, one thing is certain.

Cheat or Champ.

He is a fantastic ambassador for the sport and the foundation he created has helped so many.

Shame such a sporting legend, and cycling icon for so many, now has such a dark cloud hanging over him.

As a cyclist and a fellow countryman, I'm torn about this. I truly wanted to believe he won fair and square, but there has always been a nagging doubt. Seven consecutive wins without some sort of assistance kind of beggars belief.

I had been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but his decision to quit fighting (while understandable) does leave me leaning more toward cheat than champ. It would have been good to know for certain one way or the other, but it seems as though it shall remain a mystery.

I do have the greatest respect for his willingness to fight back from his bout of cancer, and the work his foundation has done. Not 100% certain I would have been willing/able to return to the sport with such vigor if I had been in that situation.

I'm with Lance. The USADA's performance has a very bad smell to it.

Anyway I have bigger fish to fry.... as soon as I can catch one. This hurricane Isaac has turnt the back yard into a lake!

I too am with Armstrong . There are two points which are vital : First, Justice delayed is Justice denied , and the Drug Agency has been farting about ineffectually for so many years that there is no possibility of Justice truly being done, never mind being seen to be done. Secondly , the overriding principle in all the Common law jurisdictions, of which the USA is one, is that it is for the accuser to prove guilt, and not for the accused to disprove it. Again, the Drug Agency has produced no proper evidence, let alone cogent evidence , to prove Armstrong's guilt, and therefore the only proper view is that he is not guilty of the alleged offences

There are a couple of basic rules to cheating.
1...If everyone else is doing it you won’t win a thing if you don't do it too!
2...Don't get caught!
Lance fits the profile!

Doesn't all this testing in professional sport only work if they know what they are looking for, if people use something new and different it's not found until they test specifically for it.
