Sir Stanley Hooker

Post by Garry Russell »

You Tube vid of a very unassuming, modest man who is perhaps one of the greatest engineers ever.

Popular history seems to underate his genius

Thank you for that . He wrote an autobiography not long before he died which was a good read. IIRC the title was " Not much of an engineer" . Rather contrary to appearances, he was a man who liked the good life and it was fatal to let him loose in Paris !

An excellent book indeed. Possibly among the most influential engineers of the war, and the decades after it. The airframe makers and designers get all the credit, but without solidly engineered powerplants they'd have been useless.
